                                                            ABSTRACT

This study was designed to investigate the teacher and student knowledge and disposition on family planning as a component of sexuality education in social studies in Ijebu- North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Four hypothesis questions were formulated to guide the study. A survey design was used and the population consists total of twenty (20) junior secondary school teachers and 100 students were used from the five (5) junior secondary school in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State. A sample of four teachers each and twenty students each were randomly selected (comprising of both male and female) to participate in the study. The data collected were analyzed using chi-square method of data analysis and demographic data was analyzed using simple percentage and frequency distribution tasks. The entire hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there is significant relationship between teachers’ educational qualification and knowledge on family planning as a component of sexuality education in social studies (x2=56.720; x2>7.815). The findings also revealed a significant relationship between students’ knowledge of family planning and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (x2 =100.800; x2>7.815). The findings revealed a significant relationship between student’s gender and their disposition towards family planning as a component of sexuality education (x2 =140.040; x2>7.815). The finding also reveal reveals significant relationship between teachers experience and their disposition towards family planning as a component of sexuality education (x2 =172.120; x2>7.815). The result shows that most of the teachers were more experienced and knowledgeable towards family planning as a component of sexuality education among students in the selected schools. In the course of the study, it was recommended that sexuality education teachers should teach comprehensive family planning without any element of prejudice to any aspect of the content. It was also recommended that the students should be well taught on the aims and objectives of family planning. Besides, the efficiency and reliability should also be emphasized
