ABSTRACT
Business Education as a course in institution of higher learning in Nigeria become popular with the popularisation of vocational studies in the Nation’s education curriculum, with all efforts of setting the idea of the importance of vocational training by the Federal Government enrolment in vocational related training did not receive the expected boost particularly in Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta. This project attempts to examine the influence of personality traits on the academic achievement of business education students in the Nigerian school system. In order to conduct proper investigation of the study, 60 students were randomly selected from the department of Business Education, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State students questionnaire was formulated and validated to test the hypothesis. The information obtained was taken as a first hand information and was analyzed using the simple random technique analysis. Based on the findings of this investigation, observations were highlighted and recommendation that could facilitate the influence of personality traits on the academic achievement of business education students into the Nigerian school system.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Students differ in their personal value, they receive and process information differently, their personality traits is different and hence, so also in their understanding. It is often argued that a blend of personality characteristic is necessary for people successful in their carriers. Education, Researchers and psychologists have been constantly. Searching for parsimonious set of variables that predicts patterns of student behaviour and their relationship to academic achievement.
Literally, the word “business” the state of being busy generally the term business includes all human activities concerned with earning money. In other words, business is an activity in which various people regularly produce or exchange goods and services for mutual gain or profit
The goods and services produced or purchased for personal use are not included in “business”
Business education involves teaching students the fundamental theories and processes of business Education in this field. Occurs at several. Levels including secondary education and higher education or university education, approximately, 38% of students enroll in one or more business courses during their high school tenure. John Hubert cofnyu (2002).
Herricks (2000) defined business education as that form of instruction that both directly and indirectly prepares the business man for his calling.
Harms and Stehr (2001) considered business education as the total activity which planned, organized and developed in favour of the preparation of youths. For responsible economics participation in the country.
Business education as an integral part of general education that prepares the individual for a general understanding of the business world. It also prepares the teacher for the business courses.
Uwukhor (2005) explained business education is very essential for the economic, social and industrial development of a nation. To enable an individual get useful employment or to use their education to create employment for themselves and others.
Business education as one of the vocational education is as old as man, it helps an individual to acquire marketable or suitable skills in a specialized skills. Refused to create job opportunities (Ogunsola, 20140).
Personality could be defined as the sum total of behaviours, attitudes, believes, and values that are characteristics of an individual. Our personality traits determine how we adjust to our environment and how we react in specific situations how two individual have the same person personalities.
Personality combined a set of physical and mental characteristics that reflects how a person looks, things, acts and feels.
The term ‘personality traits’ refers to enduring persons, characteristics that are revealed in a particular pattern of behaviour in a variety of situations.
It has to do with individual differences among people in behaviour patterns, cognitive and emotion (Goldberg 2001).
Personality traits involves openness to experiences, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. Openness to experiences is the degree of intellectual curiosity, creativity and a preference. For novelty and variety a person has. It is also described as the extent to which a person is imaginative or independent and depicts a personal preference for a Varity of activities over a strict routine conscientiousness is the tendency to be organized and dependable, show self discipline act dutifully aim for achievement and prefer planned rather than spontaneous behaviour extraversion individual tends to be surgency to seek stimulation in the company of others. Ewen(2010).
Agreeableness is the tendency to be compassionate and be cooperative rather than suspicious and antagonistic towards others while neuroticism is the tendency to experience unpleasant emotions easily such as anger, anxiety depression and vulnerability. Neuroticism also refers to the degree to emotional stability.
Academic achievement could be described as the out come of education the extent to which a student, teachers or institution has achieved their education goal.
It can also be defined disciplines in class, as well as extracurricular activities. It includes excellence in sporting, behaviour, confidence, communication, skills, punctuality, assertiveness, art culture and the likes.
The academic achievement of students could be affecting by the financial situation and standard of living of the parents, the geographical location of the educational institution, the diversity of student’s profile. In the same class, and also the nature of the child.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
It has been noticed that there has been a considerable decline in the academic achievement of business education students. This could be traced to the fact that students are not properly guided into coping with their personality traits.
In business education, the rate at which student fail most courses is getting too much it is disheartening to note that the influence of personality traits affects most of the student academic performances. These frustrated factors which include social factor, hereditary factor religious and cultural factors, neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience, and conscientiousness affect the performance of students in business education department.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The problem of this study would be
(i) To find out the factors affecting personality traits
(ii) To examine the factors that affects students academic achievement
(iii) To examine the influence of personality traits on the academic achievements of business education students
(iv) To find out the motivational strategies that would enhance students academic performance in business education.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study would be of benefit to the lecturers because it provides them with the opportunity to learn how handle the problem of personality traits in the lecture room there by it helps to reduce the rate of low academic achievements.
It would be of benefit to the students because it would enable the students to identify the various causes of personality disorder and the assessment of personality traits in them.
It would also be beneficial to the government because it would enable the ministry of education, the curriculum planners and also the masses to know about the factors that affects personality traits of the students its implication and the effects on academic achievement, so as for the Government to know what to provide in various institutions in order to make teaching and learning more effective.
1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study is conducted in department of business Education, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun state. And to specifically investigate the influence of personality traits on the academic achievements of business education students

PERSONALITY: This is the sum total of all the different ways in which a person reacts and interacts with others.
PERSONALITY TRAITS: This refers to personal characteristics that are revealed in a particular pattern of behaviour in a variety of situations.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: This is the out come of education, the extent to which a student, teacher, or institution has achieved their educational goals.
BUSINESS EDUCATION: This involves the teaching of students the fundamental theories and processes of business.
