ABSTRACT

            The aim of this study is to look into the effect of child labour on pupils’ academic performance in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State. The instrument use is questionnaire to elicit information from one hundred and twenty pupils randomly selected from the six schools in Egbeda Local Government.

            The researcher made use of the percentage method to analyse the data collected for the study. The following research questions were also asked.

i.          Is there any relationship between child labour and pupils academic performance.

ii.         Is there any relationship between parental educational background and child labour.

iii.        Is there any relationship between child labour and the level of peer group influence.

            The study revealed that the bad attitude of parents in Egbeda Local Government have a great influence on pupils academic performance.

The educational level of parents in Egbeda Local Government influence their child labour.

Poverty also encouraged some parent s to end or teach their female child on how to sell themselves for boys in order to get money.

Most of the parents in Egbeda Local Government does not know what constitute child labour.

Above all, sufficient and adequate recommendations were made on the avoiding of child labour practices in Egbeda Local Government, Ibadan.
