ABSTRACT The study investigated training and employee performance a case study of Rider Hotel Mukono along Kampala Jinja High way, The objectives of the study were; i) To establish the employee training methods, ii) To assess the effects of training on employee performance and iii) To establish factors that affect employee performance in Rider hotel Mukono. The study used crosssectional research design in nature and this helped in collecting data fiom a wide section of study respondents. A sample of 100 employees at Rider hotel was used. Data was analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation, were derived for easy interpretation and statistical tools like tables and figures were used. The findings on the methods of training indicate that management at rider hotel focus on both on the job such as demonstration and facilitation and of the job methods such as formal training courses, seminars, conferences among others. This is because they help in equipping employees with the skills and knowledge thus increasing on their level of confidence when it comes to performing the task. The findings indicated that training is a leading factor in employee performance of Rider hotel that is to say, training affects performance positively at rider hotel in that. it reduces labor turnover and acts as a motivational tool that drives employees to achieve better results. The findings showed that there are other factors that affect employee performance at Rider hotel besides training such as posSesSion of right qualifications, clear organizational policies among others. It was concluded that to improve on the employee confidence, management can adopt specific training strategies or methods such as committee assignments, case study and programmed instructions, Management should devise means of increasing the commitment of employees towards the training program and training policy of the hotel and also Management should take into consideration the rapid employee satisfaction, promoter score and competition from other hotels. It finally recommended that employers should evaluate the training strategies with respect to job retention to ensure that the effects are uniformly attained across the hotel, key important aspects should be conducted to build up career development of employees and lastly management can come up with strategies to solve the above problem for example provision of nonfinancial rewards and incentives. On the findings about training methods used at Rider hotel, it was revealed that the hotel has put in place various training methods for employees and is evidenced in the data collected. On the findings on other factors affecting employee performance at Rider hotel revealed that the hotel has various other factors affecting employee, that is to say, right qualifications, clear organizational goals. technical skills, right tools and equipment and company culture. In conclusion, the management of Rider hotel should opt for effective training methods provided to employees to improve employee performance.
