ABSTRACT Background; There is a growing interest in adolescent reproductive health with regard to unwanted pregnancies (Buxton, 2012). Contraception is one of the essential elements of youth reproductive health and it allows youth to determine the timing and the number of their children and empowers them to manage their lives with respect and dignity (Tchokossa, 2018). problem statement; Despite the ongoing campaign to increase family planning and prevention of unwanted pregnancies being an integral component of achieving the united nation millennium goal five of improving maternal health, contraceptive use in Uganda is still low with only 26% of married women and 43% of sexually active unmarried women using (WB Ug, 2011). This was the basis of this research to determine the prevalence, demographic characteristics and the method of contraception used among secondary school students in Bundibugyo district. Almost all respondents in senior five 60 (91%) and senior six 64 (97%) had used contraception while in senior one and two only 11 (16%) and 17 (25%) of the respondents had used contraception respectively. 59% Babwisi , 59% Bakonjo, and 37% of the Bamba used the contraception as well.
