ABSTRACT

The study investigated Smart Room Solutions in the UAE with aim of evaluating the impact Smart Room Solutions have had on the hospitality and tourism sector of the UAE. The research design used was the descriptive survey design. For the study, a population comprising of hotel visitors involved in the decision making process of their facilities located in Dubai from which 100 visitors were picked as samples using the simple random sampling selection technique was used. A self-developed survey questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection in this study. The title of the instrument for data collection was the Impact of Smart Room Solutions in UAE Questionnaire (ISRSUQ) which was administered to the one hundred visitors of the randomly selected hotels in Dubai via electronic mail. Mean values, percentages and frequency distribution tables were used to analyze the results in order to get remarks of the respondents in response to the research questions raised. The results revealed that a fairly significant majority of the visitors agreed with the availability of smart technology in the hotels in the area and would prefer to stay in a hotel which has adopted the concept over one that has not. Also it revealed that the potential of smart room solutions is great as hotels will most likely adopt technological innovations in the future because it is the future of the industry. It is recommended that more hotels and tourist destinations encourage the use of smart room technologies in all their premises. Lastly, Government hospitality and tourism policies should be aimed at making smart technologies a prerequisite for hotels and guest houses operating in their domains.
