INTRODUCTION
Nigeria as a nation is made up of different regions or geographical region and each geographical zones are made up of states and local government councils which will form the focus or area of interest especially that of Ezeagu local government in Enugu.
Here, local government administration means a system of local Government administration at the divisional and community level intended primarily ti initiate and direct the precision of services and implementation of projects of the local communities and to co-ordinate the activities of the state government that is such function will be in such a way as to ensure proper decentralization of function and in the planning and execution of general development and management of their own affairs.
The above citation will focus in the objectives of the local government system as they will form the basis of our discussion on the main project work.
In the light of this, Ezeagu local government areas of Enugu state will be used as a case study to really ascertain the root causes of her financial management as it relates to their backwardness.
Ezeagu local government area of Enugu state was calved out from Udi Local government in 1974. It still counts as one of the developing local government areas in Enugu state, inspite of numerous revenue sources available to it. Even the ones generated are not appropriately utilized or managed.
To this end, some communities cannot boast of electricity supply and only a few of their entire towns in the local government areas has pipe borne water, staff salaries were owned for months now resulting to protracted strikes action of that local government workers.
In that respect, rumors always go round that money generated by the council (both internally and externally) is not used appropriately. Also, others say that staff do not give proper account of financial transactions they run for the council.
People in local government areas are therefore not very happy with the situation of the development activities in the area. This unhappiness manifest in people unwillingness to pay tax as when due, workers going on strikes which eventually lead to developmental problems in the council.
Consequently, the objectives of this research work is to x-ray the possible case of financial mismanagement in Ezeagu local government council with a view to suggesting lasting solution to elemental problems among the communities in the local government area.
