ABSTRACT

This research work was analysed the cost and returns of poultry egg production in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. Primary data was collected from 90 poultry egg farmers drawn from the study area by a simple random sampling technique. The data collected were analysed using descriptive, budgetary, regression analysis and likert scale.

The socio-economic characteristics of the farmers were determined using descriptive method to find out their various frequencies like in Age, Household size, Farming Experience.

Regression analysis was used to measure the relationship between output of egg and the independent variables (feed, vaccines, fuel, drugs, flock size, labour, water and depreciation cost on equipments). The adjusted R2 is 75.3% which means that 75.3 % of the variables in the model are explainable while the others are unexplainable variables i.e. 24.7% which are residents in the error term.

It was discovered that cost of feed, flock size and the quantity of water conform with apriori expectation and are statistically significant with the output of egg produced while cost of fuel, labour, cost of drugs and vaccines and depreciation cost on equipments were not significantly related to the output of egg produced.

The constraints facing the farmers was investigated with the use of likert scale, it was discovered that the farmers are faced with 3 major constraints to poultry egg production in the study area, which are  High Cost of Feed , High Cost of Inputs such as drugs and vaccines, Susceptibility to Diseases and Sensitivity to Environmental Factors.
