Nematode infestation has contributed to the low yield in tomato production in Nigeria (Charcher et. al., 2003).  Other production problem in the management of tomatos are weeds infestation, insects pest and diseases such as bacteria, fungi and virus diseases (Li et. al., 2007).  According to Nagesh at. al., 2005) rood-knot index ranged from 3.2 to 4.5 on a 0.5 scale with number of egg masses ranging from 69 to 98 lg root.  Therefore, controlling nematodes in the soil could help boost the growth and yield of tomato.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

-    To evaluate the reaction of Meloidogyne in some commonly grown tomato cultivars in Samaru, Zaria.

-    To determine cultivars with high nematodes resistance.

-    To assess the damage and losses caused by M. Spp.

-       To recommend the cultivar tolerable to root-knot nematode for farmers in Samaru.
