ABSTRACT The study aimed at establishing the impact effect of alcohol abuse on the well- being of the people in Slum areas of Kalalaka Division in Pallisa district. The objectives of the study were, to find out the causes of alcohol abuse among people in Kalalaka Division in Pallisa district, to find out the effects of alcohol abuse on well-being of life among people in Kalalaka Division in Pallisa district, and to find out ways of preventing alcohol abuse among people in Kalalaka Division in Pallisa district. A descriptive approach was adopted in this study. An explanatory research design survey involved the process of collecting data from the members of a population in order to determine the effect of alcohol abuse on the wellbeing of people in slum areas. The researcher used a sample size of 40 respondents for the study which includes the community, and the local leaders in the slum areas. Both purposive and simple sampling techniques was used to obtain the desired sample of respondents from the large population. Different people may drink for different reasons and at different times as celebration, social aspects in order to relieve tension, shyness, fear and escape from problems/pressures of life, conform to peer groups, feel good, reduce loneliness, to get drunk among other factors. The study recommended needs to increase awareness on alcohol and give the youth and other stake holders basic facts on what alcohol are and its effects. There is also need to do a campaign on where to get help if one needs treatment and rehabilitation. Enhanced interventions programs targeting the students who are at risk of developing alcohol abuse or dependence.
