SELECTED PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN IKPOBA-OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE.
ABSTRACT

In this project, the researcher explained the affect of teaching aids on teaching and learning in some selected primary school in Benin City. Close-ended questionnaire were utilized in the work. The data obtained were processed and analyzed. At the end it was discovered that factors rouging from the adequate teaching sitting arrangement to good ventilation, beautification of the class go a long way in enhancing the teaching and learning classroom encouragement recommendation based on the research finding were made as to highlight the effect of teaching aids and to create means of affective and conducive teaching learning environment for the benefit of the pupils.

INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND of THE STUDY
Teaching is essentially built on the broad concept of impacting knowledge on learners teaching can be  viewed as an attempt to help the learner or someone to acquire skill attitude and also knowledge. According to Asaya and Egwali (2005) teaching may be defined as an attempt to bring desirable changes in human learning abilities and behaviour learning on the other hand can be said to be a change in behaviour which is more or less permanent in nature due to experience exposure of knowledge gained and required by the active participation of the child or the learner it is also known as acquisition of hobbies knowledge and attitude involving new ways of doing things
      Kruglart (2001) thought along line when he postulated that children both in urban and rural area or community should be taught with teaching aid in order to aid teaching-learning in the schools. An ideal teaching-learning environment should be comfortable, noiseless, decorated and enriched with careful visual and audio visual teaching aids “teaching aids” is identical in meaning to instructional material” in order word, the two terms can be used interchangeably for the purpose of this topic, teaching aids may include, excursion or field trips dramatization, demonstration, display modes and exhibits film TV programmes e.g.
     According to Andrew O. Urevbu (1991) sees teaching aids as a visual or audio visual material, which facilitate the assimilation of organization it enable student to have a mental picture of what they are taught and to retain the message in their head for a very long time. This is of utmost importance because their use promotes meaningful communication
  STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The objectives of this study are;
1.                 To examine the effect of teaching aid in the teaching and learning in primary schools
2.                 To examine the place of teaching aid in teaching-learning
3.                 To take a look at the use of teaching aid    in schools
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
 The researcher wishes to critically examine the following:
1.                 Identify the problems militating against the uses of teaching aids in the teaching and learning in a school environment
2.                 Investigate the output of teaching and learning though the use of the right teaching aids
3.                 make policy recommendation base on the finding of this research
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will help all those that are involved in teaching and administration of the primary and secondary school to know the effect that militate aquarist good performance to teachers and learning in the classroom environment it will also in with the fact and figures for planning schools
      Also, the study will help to educate and be beneficial to school administrator, teacher, educator e.g. on the importance of using the teaching aids to facilitate teaching-learning. This is important as it will make for good decision making, effective communication all these will enhance teachers and student performance in school
     Finally, the study will help to educate teachers on the danger associated with the lack of improper use of the aids in the facilitating of teaching and learning therefore there is no doubt that the result of the finding of this study will bring to light the above significance in the present and in the future

1.                 What are the attitudes of the teachers in using the teaching aid in the classroom?
2.                 Do teaching aid help in the facilitating of teaching-learning in the primary school?
3.                 Are there effect of teaching aid on the teaching and learning in the primary school?
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the research work is restricted to primary schools in Ikpoba Okha local Government Area in Edo state. However school were selected and these include
1.                 Ologbosere primary school
2.                 Ogiava primary school
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Here we shall clarify the following terms, used in this study in order to avoid misinterpretation
Teaching: This is the transmission of attitudes skills, acknowledgment and the ability to read and write a document
Learning: This is a change in behaviours; which is more or less permanent in nature due to experience
Teaching and: These are instructional materiel use in teaching such as chat chalkboard e.g.
Attitude: This is habitual way of thinking or teaching about group, person or object
Transmission: This is the passing of information, skills, data e.g. from a source to a receiver
