(A STUDY OF THE NIGERIAN BREWERIES PLC)
ABSTRACT

The assessment of the effect of risk management in an establishment (The Nigeria Breweries plc), Insurance plays a vital role in the management of risk.  Therefore, there are need to examine some of the problems of the topic which are the lack of safety facilities for staff, inadequate water treatment plant and inadequate fund for risk management.  The objective of this research work is to find out the inadequacy in finding risk management and water treatment plant, also the lack of safety facility for the staffs.  To achieve the above objective, the method used in analyzing this data includes, the description and questionnaire method. The tables, chi-square (X2) method was used in testing the hypothesis.  Based on the data collected and analyzed in this study, the following findings were made; that there  are safety facilities for the staff in the Nigerian breweries and that there is a enough water treatment machines or plants installed for the processing brew. It was concluded that, there should be regular check and maintenance of those plants. I recommend that managers should be proactive in their duties against risks.

INTRODUCTION
1.1    BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
It is well known fact that the occurrence of risks in a establishment is caused by lack of checks and balances, which results to the failure on managerial approach in resolving the effects of risk. Kuchi (2009), risk management is not just something for the organization alone, but for any activities whether short or long term to handle obviously, the benefit and opportunities should be viewed in the context of the activity itself and to the varied shake holders who can be affected.  They are ways of achieving the purpose of risk management and it would be possible by trying to set them out in a single file, a likely ideas of Nigeria Breweries Plc.  Every establishment leads proper manpower budget is not well planned, the organization set up. But if a proper manpower budget would be faced with a high risk failure.  Virginia (2004), management in a general context involves the act of getting things done by accessing the performance which is known as controlling etc.  it is therefore important that management ensures things are done orderly and in a proper way for any brewing company that is just starting, there is need to carryout a feasibility study to determine how best the business can be managed in respect to moral and physical hazards there in Nurife (2009), management should expect the outcome of risks in the establishment. However, they can with an understanding to treat it systematically.
1.2    STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM  
This highlights the necessary factors to be used in accessing the performance of Nigeria breweries plc, at the time of production such as;
1.    There is lack of safety facilities for staff.
2.    Inadequate water treatment plant.
3.    Lack of employers liability policy.
4.    Inadequate fund for risk management.
1.3    OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Generally, the concern of this study is observed the following such as;
1.    To findout if there is lack of staff safety facilities.
2.    To expose how inadequate the water treatment plant is.
3.    To findout if there is no employer’s liability insurance.
4.    To expose that fact that there are no available fund for risk management.
1.4    RESEARCH QUESTION
Based on the objective of the study, the following questions were formulate;
1.    Is there lack of safety facilities for staff?
2.    Are there not enough water treatment plant?
3.    Is the emplooyer’s liability insurance not in place?
4.    Are there not enough fund for risk management”?
1.5    RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
The following are the hypothesis gotten for the study, such as;
1.    Hi:    There is no lack of staff safety facilities.
    H0:    There is lack of staff safety facilities.
2.    H0:    There are no enough water treatment plants.
    Hi:    There are enough water treatment plants.
3.    H1:    There is employers liability insurance for employers.
H0:    There is no employer’s liability insurance for employees.
1.6    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
-    The student:    This study will serve as a reference point for the student that may engage on this kinds of research in the future.f
-    The Stakeholders: They will earn more on their investment, if the risk at present is properly managed.
-    The Insurance Company:  The foresight gained in this study will help the financial institutions to effectively access risk management currently faced in the establishment.
-    The country at large:  The general public will appreciate the merits of economic development done by the management in order to reduce the effects of risk.
1.7    SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The research work is done in Enugu Metropolis, were the researcher searched for relevant materials as it related to the subject matter, i.e evaluation of the effects of risk management in an establishment, a study of Nigeria breweries plc.
The limitation
The researcher in carrying out this study encountered numerous problems , which include;
1.    Fund: This is the unavailability of money to move around the state and to buy enough research materials.
2.    Time: This is one factor that the researcher faced by combining school activities and the researcher work at the same time, which limits him to cover some areas.
3.    Lack of materials: The researcher could not lay hand on quality materials.
4.    Response of the Respondents: The differently encountered by the researcher, express themselves as regards the assessment of the effects on risk management in an establishment.
1.8    DEFINITION OF OPERATIONAL TERMS
The following are the listed definitions of terms in this research work;
1.    Risk: Is the possibility that something unpleasant will happen either a person or thing.
1.    Management: is the process to be in charge of an establishment over its staffs.
2.    Accessment: Is to form an idea of the amount, number or value.
3.    Effect: A change which is a result or consequence of an action or other cause.
4.    Employer: A person or organization that employs people.
5.    Staff: The employers of a particular organization.
6.    Establishment: Is a business organization that influence over matter of policy.
7.    Facility: A building service or piece of equipment that is provided or a particular purpose.
8.    Policy: Is a contact proposed by an insurance company.
9.    Breweries: Is a place where beer is made commercially.
10.    Water: The liquid which forms the seas, lakes, rivers, rain and it the basis of the fluids of living organisms.
11.    Vessel: Is a container used to hold liquid substance during production.
12.    Values: A devices for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe, especially an automatic device which allows movement in one direction only.
13.    Steam: The hot vapour into which water condenses in the air into a mist of minute water droplets.
14.    Tank: A storage chamber, especially for liquid or gar.
