ABSTRACT This research thesis is intended to analyze the law protecting children rights, particularly in relation to street children in Kampala. The historical genesis and development of the children's rights provisions will generally be reviewed under legal framework, but much emphasis will be on the post independence period, specifically from 1990 up to date. The Research will be geographically centered on Kampala metropolitan area as a case study, the rationale being that the said city is attended by a very high population of street children. This state of affairs, as the study will show, has, almost inevitably brought with it gross abuse of the said children's rights (expressed in the different Conventions and domestic legislations). The research will therefore focus on analyzing the day to day conditions of this category of children vis a visthe different laws purporting to cater for their welfare. Finally, the role of stakeholders such as government institutions and non government organizations in promoting and protecting children's rights and to what extent they have discharged the same will equally form part of this analysis.
