ABSTRACT

The effectiveness of community relations strategies can only be achieved when the management recognizes ways its organization can have a good relationship with the local community and the extent of reciprocal independence which will help to establish social balance. This study was aimed at assessing community relations strategies for promoting harmony between organizations and their host communities: A study of Peace Mass Transit Limited, Nsukka. The researcher adopted the survey method, using a questionnaire to collect data from384 respondents. Residents of Nsukka Local Government Area constituted the population of the study. For the purpose of this research study multi-stage sampling techniques – cluster, simple random, quota, andconvenientsamplingtechniqueswereusedtoselect respondentsfortheresearch. Datawereanalyzedbothquantitativelyand qualitatively. The study was anchored on three theories– social relations theory, multi- step/opinion leadership theory, and stakeholder theory. Findings from the study revealed the community relations strategies employedby Peace Mass Transit Limitedare effective to an average level but challenges are facing the strategies that need to be solved. The study recommended that Peace Mass Transit Limited should as a matter of necessity work closely with their host communities to identify their core needs via the release of corporate social welfare packages
