 ABSTRACT

As reality is said to be reflected in film, this study was conducted to comprehend the variances to the subject of political apathy amongst Nigerian youths as depicted in the movie, King of Boys. The theories social realism (film) theory and agenda-setting theory were adopted to identify ongoing issues that have an impact on people’s daily lives and how the media has an impact on a given subject matter placed on a public agenda. The study adopted quantitative research design with a sample size of 200 Nigerian youths selected through purposive sampling technique with three research questions. The research employed the use of survey method in which questionnaires was administered to respondents. Findings drawn from this research is that most Nigerian youths concur that political apathy exists as a root cause of poor governance along with unfulfilled promises from those in power, as represented in the film, King of Boys. The conclusion drawn is that Nollywood films and the current state of the country, plays a crucial role in promoting political apathy amongst Nigeria youths and there are also major factors that hinder political participation of Nigerian youths. The researcher recommends that the Federal government consider the inclusiveness of political related courses in the academic curriculum as a general course.
