ABSTRACT Thisresearch was carried out on the role of CSOs in mitigating misuse of public funds in Soroti DLG. The research employed qualitative method to assess the role played by CSOs in mitigating misuse of public ffinds in Uganda, a case study of TAC, Soroti district. Notable among these methods were: FGDs, personal interviews, key informant interviews and document reviews. The research specifically assessed the extent to which misuse of public funds has persisted despite the interventions by CSOs to mitigate it. The research examined how the actions of CSOs impact on the quality of service delivery in the district. At the LO level, the CSOs provide an educational platform for civil servants and political leaders to improve their performance especially in areas where their performance has been found wanting. In the long run, the resulting impact will be the community’s ability to demand for accountability on service delivery issues that concern them whenever they are in contact with their elected leaders. The research focused on the assessment of the perspectives of misuse of public funds, reasons for misuse of public funds, why it is persistent, the role played by CSOs in mitigating it, challenges CSOs are faced with when mitigating misuse of public funds, possible solutions and recommendations. The themes of assessment were premised on different topics and subtopics and other identified areas of interest for presentation of the findings.
