ABSTRACT
This study focuses on the Nigeria Police Force and crime control in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area,
Edo state, Nigeria. The general objective of the study is to investigate the impact of the police force on crime control in Okpella. Four hypotheses relating to the interrogatives in the statement of the problem and the objectives of the study are derived from this work as framework for answers.
The study covers four villages of about thirteen villages that make up Okpella. The target population is 96,039. The study uses the survey design. The questionnaire instrument is used to gather primary data from a sample of 300
respondents selected by multi – stage and stratified random sampling of streets from Okpella. The analysis of the data is done using the statistical techniques of percentage, and chi – square. The findings of the study reveal the various
means employed by the police in crime control; the relationship that exists between the police and the public in Okpella; the problems of the police force and the reason for the existence of other means of crime control.
