                                                                       Abstract

The presence of street trading in major cities of the world has transcended the level where it was viewed as strictly uncommon occurrence to a worrisome global problem. It is escalating and alarming. The global estimate of street trading has not only attracted public concern but has also become a matter of priority to Nigeria government as well as national and international organizations. Particularly in Africa where the problem of street trading is relatively new unlike the situation in Asia, the presence of large number of street trading has now become a major issue. In view of this background, this study has empirically examined the causes and implication of street trading by Girl child in Kawo Motor park of Kaduna North Local Government Area, Kaduna State. To address the problem of study, three research questions were raised. The researcher adopted a survey research design and in-depth interview. A total of ninety-seven (97) respondents comprised the target of the study. Questionnaire and in-depth interview guide were the instruments used for data collection. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), frequency tables and percentages (%) were employed in the data analysis. Findings of the study indicate that majority of the respondents are involved in street trading because of poverty. Street trading results in girls dropping out of school and been sexual abuse. Parents should tried as much as possible to send their girls to school so as to reduced the practices of street trading, intensive enlightenment campaign should be made through radio jingles, television clips, to educate the parents on the danger of exposing their children to street trading,  campaigns should be organized to educate parents and children on the evils of child trading as solutions to the problem of street trading by the girl child.
