The literature was reviewed in order to establish the gaps that exist in as far as the study was concerned. The literature was reviewed following the objectives of the study. The review of the literature was still based on the research questions to be answered. The background information or biodata contributed much towards the findings as follows; many of the residents of the area were unemployed, the majority of the respondents were teachers who were technical people whose answers should be authentic. Most children in Malaba Town Council are involved in smuggling. The leading causes of smuggling were several but especially children's background, illiteracy, few schools in the area and poverty. Children were involved in smuggling and this affected their performance through absenteeism, money minded, diversion and environmental.
