ABSTRACT The title of the study is; ‘The impact of early marriages on the academic performance of the girl child in Elangata-wuas zone Kajiado district, Kenya’. It was intended investigate the effect of early marriages on the performance of the girls in education. The report is made up of five chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction thus; the background to the study, statement of the problem, objectives and others. Chapter two is literature review, chapter three is research methodology, Chapter four deals with the analysis of data as got from the field and finally chapter five views the discussions, conclusions and recommendations. The study was guided by several objectives and research questions which were discussed under sub-topics. The questionnaires were used to collect data from learners, Parents and teachers who were the respondents. The questions were both open ended and closed ended. They were administered in five schools in Elangata-wuas zone Kajiado district which was the area where the study was carried out. The results of the study showed that early marriages affect the education performance of girls. Therefore some intervention measures must be put in order for the girls to perform well and enjoy their education to develop the nation since education is a key to success. The performance of girls continually lags behind due to some factors like cultural practices, poverty, learning environment, lack of good role models among others.
