ABSTRACT-Power system planning is a vast and important issue for operation and expansion of power delivery. One of the basic objectives of planning is to determine the right schedule for investment in new devices which ensures secure and economic power delivery for predicted customer demand. System planning also addresses the question of reliable and stable operation; hence reliability and stability analysis are also included in adequate power system planning studies. This work explores the adequate power system in Nigeria. It covers the three areas of system planning- generation, transmission and distribution planning and its necessity in improving power system in Nigeria. An overview of the power industry in Nigeria and its problem in actualizing an adequate power system planning is also treated.
