BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Today’s increasingly competitive business world means that a highly-motivated workforce is vital for any organization seeking to achieve the best results. Many firms are moving away from the “command and control” approach towards the “advice and consent” method as a preferable way of motivating staff. This shift in attitude began when employers recognized that rewarding good work is more effective than punitive measures for poor work. Different people are motivated in different ways and it pays for employers to ask their staff if any changes at work would help motivate them. Underperformance can be expensive if not avoided at place of work.
