ABSTRACT
This Research work is on the challenges of News Objectivity in Print media specifically the newspaper. Objectivity is one of the noble standards in the journalism professions. Journalists are adjudged to insulate personal bias and idiosyncrasies from the news reports they write. This simplistically, is the import of news objectivity with its overwhelming implications on both the media and the reading public. However, observation has revealed that upholding ethical injunction of objectivity can be quite challenging for the average journalist. Thus, this study which employs the survey research design is a critical and extensive foray into the challenges of news objectivity in Newspaper with Anambra based newspaper National Light as the case study. The major aim of this research work is to examine the challenges of news objectivity and how journalists wriggle out of the ethical fix. To achieve this, a medley of literature germane to the research subject was reviewed for secondary information. An appropriate questionnaire was administered to the staff of National Light. The study therefore, reveals that undiluted objectivity is a mirage and a mere noble abstraction. It concludes that journalists should be more honest in their reportage. Finally, the study recommends that the standard of objectivity be emphasized at all levels of journalism teaching and journalist be more enlightened on bias-carrying “news elements”.
