ABSTRACT Chapter one. This chapter consists of the general introduction law of defamation, the problem, Hypothesis, Objective, The scope of the study, Its significance, Methodology and Literature review. Chapter two. This examines the background to the law of defamation and generally press law in Uganda In this it is necessary to review the social, political and economic factors that impede the evolution of a truly free press. Chapter three . This gives out the methodology used during the research Chapter four. It is the core of this research. It examines the law of defamation and its impacts on the press in Uganda. The pros and Cons of this law are analysed and the general impact of the law of defamation in our society excuses those who are using this law as a shield and all the other alternatives are discussed. Chapter five It divulges in all possible solutions to the problem analysed above, the findings and conditions of the whole study.
